New stuff

January 21st, 2009

One thing is clear – I’am not going to be awarded “blogger of the year” for gigfreaks’ blog. Over a month has passed since the last time I’ve posted here and a lot has happened since :

I’ve added some great features like genres tag cloud and top events, ajax-style lyrics library, playable  playlists for each and every artist and album information with track lists.

Here is a short how-to guide :

  • To search for events and artist by your favorite genre – just enter the type of music you like at the left text box, or click on it when it appears on the main page.
  • To listen to the most popular tracks of an artist or band, while viewing his page, use the player under the artist’s photo.
  • To find lyrics go to an album page and click on a song – its lyrics will appear in a second.

With these features the site doubles its potential and truly becomes a huge container of interesting information for music fans.

A gift : Kutiman is a great funk musician, check him out!

Be safe,

gigfreaks.

Ciao, bambina!

December 4th, 2008

After is seemed that magic is possible and gigfreaks will emerge into publicity quickly and effortlessly, the Italians stopped coming. After 2 days that the same blog post from programmableweb.com was copied over and over again in Italian tech and music blogs, the flow has stopped, and we are down from 300 to 30 users a day.

Lately I’ve found some bugs I was not aware of, and the site is far from being complete, but I really believe that it is a good service, and as such must succeed in spreading itself between music lovers!

Right now I’m working on providing easy ways to buy tickets from the artist or the event page, in affiliation with several online ticket services. By the way, if you have some comments, ideas or suggestions please bring them up!

Before the end - http://www.myspace.com/izaboband - a really fun band from Israel, check them out!

The Official Gigfreaks Cheat Sheet

December 2nd, 2008

Search by artist

Entering an artist or band will suggest similar artists that play the same genre of music and list all their scheduled gigs. It`s possible to filter concerts by 2 parameters: location and date range. Location is a country or a city (entering a state name will probably not work). As for dates you may enter both, one or none. If you are not interested in artists that don’t have planned events tick the check box and they will be left out.

Search by location

This is a geo search and will list all scheduled concerts for the entered country or city. Entering dates will filter out all gigs that don’t fit.

Note : a red link leads to gigs search, while a blue link will open an information page.

Enjoy gigfreaks!

Here we go

December 1st, 2008

My name is Ilya and lately I have a lot of free time. Some would say too much.

What I chose to do with my life since I’ve left my warm asp.net-developer seat is to go with the flow and see where it takes me. One night I was trying to find something interesting in the Yahoo! APIs directory and discovered that the information they provide makes it possible to create a list of similar events and concerts based on a single favorite artist. A spark appeared in my eyes and the process of me becoming a total programming freak began. Since then, for the last 3 weeks I’ve spent all my time working on the site and putting it together, including the time I was supposed to spend with my girlfriend, family, studies and friends. So, to all the above - sorry for the negligence, I will make it up to you the moment I can take my eyes of the site’s visitor counter.

Anyway, I hope this site can help some of you, who want to go to a concert, but dont know how.
